Herbal First Aid, Botany, and Local Plant
Medicines
May 17-20, 2016
We are excited to host 7Song, nationally renowned herbalist
and director of the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine in Ithaca, NY, for a stop on his 2016 teaching tour. Join us for
four full days of hands-on learning with a focus on three areas of interest to the herbalist: herbal first aid, botanical
Identification and the use of local plants as medicine.
The herbal first aid section will offer a practical approach of using plants and herbal medicines in a variety of first aid
situations including injuries, wounds, burns, animal bites, infections and the treatment of pain. There are abundant local
medicinal plants in the region and we will cover ways to ethically gather them, prepare them as medicine and use them medicinally.
We will also go into detail on how to identify plants accurately to the species level. We will start by going over the various
structures of the plants and then how to use a technical plant key to identify them, which we will do as group as people
learn this skill. We will be using Weakley's Flora which can be downloaded for free (see link below).
Tuition includes handouts, supplies, and meals (vegetarian lunch and dinner).
Rustic camping is available on-site at no additional cost. Fresh spring water and herbal tea will be provided. Fee is $350
for early registration sent by March 1, and $400 after March 1. Deadline for payment is April 30, 2016. Class size is limited,
register early to confirm your spot.
